Units Naming Convention
Abstract
This page outlines the naming conventions for units used in Chronocurl software to display speed and split time values. It explains the distinction between time and speed units, describes how each is measured, and provides a reference table for all available units and their meanings.
Two types of values can be displayed by the software, speed values and split time values. When building practices, the user can select from multiple values from the Factor selection wheel (Figure A).
Time values or split times
Time values are what curlers refer to as split times, which is the amount of time a stone takes to travel between two lines. To measure split times between two lines, multiple instruments must be used along with the Pro App.
Time units are generally depicted using two red letters to remind the user that two instruments must be used for that unit.
Speed values
Speed values are measured using the instrument at the first hog-line. It takes into account the amount of time the laser is cut and the diameter of the stone entered in the app settings.
The speed units are generally depicted using a black letter and a red letter to remind the user that only one instrument, the one at the first hog line, is used to derive that value.
Classical speed units such as km/h, mph, m/s, ft/s are available.
Because curlers associate faster speed with lower numbers (due to the use of split times) Chronocurl offers speed units depicted as split times. The values are calculated split times and may not match actual split times measured with a stopwatch. Contrary to normal speed units that go up with faster speeds, split times go down as the stone gets faster.
Table of available units

| BH | Back Line | Hog (near) | Time | Time measured between back line and near hog line |
| BT | Back Line | T Line | Time | Time measured between back line and T line |
| KM | Hog (near) | - | Speed | Speed in kilometers per hour |
| MH | Hog (near) | - | Speed | Speed in miles per hour |
| MS | Hog (near) | - | Speed | Speed in meters per second |
| FS | Hog (near) | - | Speed | Speed in feet per second |
| HH | Hog (near) | - | Speed (displayed as time) | Estimation of hog line to hog line split time based on speed of the stone |
| BH | Hog (near) | - | Speed (displayed as time) | Estimation of back line to hog line split time based on speed of the stone |
| TH | Hog (near) | - | Speed (displayed as time) | Estimation of T line to hog line split time based on speed of the stone |
| ΔTH | T Line | Hog (near) | Difference | Difference between the speed of the stone (TH) and measured split time (TH) between T line and near hog line |
| ΔBH | Back Line | Hog (near) | Difference | Difference between the speed of the stone (BH) and measured split time (BH) between back line and near hog line |
| CD | Back Line | No display | Countdown Beep says beep after a defined amount of time. Can’t be combined with other measurements. |
